Box Office Breakdown: Chance of Meatballs is Winning Recipe

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

While it may not have had a Damon, an Aniston or a Fox, had something no other film did this weekend: a win. The animated adaptation raked in $30.3 million over the weekend easily pushing it to the top of the charts. The PG-rated entry towered over the box office and nearly tripled its nearest competitor (The Informant). The 3-D film also gave Sony Pictures Animation its biggest debut to date.

Elsewhere, two Hollywood beauties were struggling to make a respectable showing. Despite (or because of) a number of notable quotes, Megan Fox failed to muster any interest in her first starring vehicle. Jennifer’s Body, a horror film penned by Diablo Cody, raised a whopping $6.9 million for a fifth-place finish. (I’m not even sure that would be enough to fund one day of a Transformers production.) Megan Fox might not be a fan of Michael Bay, but she better be grateful she met him.

Matt Damon Looks Up to Clint Eastwood

Matt Damon wants to have Clint Eastwood’s career.

The Hollywood star - who worked with the award-winning director and actor on upcoming movie Invictus - is in awe of Clint’s successful move behind the camera and would love to follow suit.

He said: “I don’t get starstruck in front of someone like him because I don’t care about the superficiality in this business. I care about his talent, and what really intrigued me was the fact that Clint made the transition from acting to directing,” Matt said. “He started directing when he was 39. I’m 38 now. I’m hoping to have the same career trajectory where I make movies as an actor until I’m 40 and then I start directing.”

Damon insists he is, of course, far from being the only star to have huge respect for 79-year-old Eastwood.

“Few people in life get to do something they love so much. I talk to other people I respect, like Ben Affleck and , and all of us look up to Clint,” he added to the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper.

Sequel News: Hulk, Wall Street, Evil Dead and More

The Incredible Hulk

Here’s the latest scoop on the sequel buzz spreading across Hollywood:

Hairspray: Earlier this summer, New Line announced plans to produce a Hairspray follow. Unfortunately, the studio - which has already asked John Waters to write a treatment - may have a major casting issue to deal with. In a recent interview with Australia’s Sunday Herald Sun, John Travolta said he wasn’t looking forward to putting Edna Turnblad’s fat suit back on. “I think once is enough. I did it and I did it well but I’m not a big sequel guy,” the Look Who’s Talking Too star claimed. No other stars from the original cast have yet been confirmed for the new musical.
